Zealandia Is Earth’s Eight Continent!
Geologists Have Discovered The 8th Continent Of The Worl. A hidden continent it seems…
Zealandia, Earth’s 8th Continent is a nearly submerged mass of continental crust that sank after breaking away from Australia 60–85 million years ago, having separated from
Antarctica between 85 and 130 Ma ago.
94% of Zealandia land is understand water. Zealandia size is approximately 4,920,000 km2 and is currently the world’s largest current micro-continent
Classification As A Continent
Althought Zealandia was known for a while now it is just now making it’s way into the news in 2017 as a team of 11 geologists from New Zealand, New Caledonia and Australia concluded that Zealandia has all the requirements to be declared a drowned continent, rather than a microcontinent or continental fragment.
Zealandia is largely made up of two nearly parallel ridges, separated by a failed rift, where the rift breakup of the continent stops and becomes a filled graben.
Zaelandia has a total human population of 5 millions people being part of the following
- New Zealand – 4,735,600
- New Caledonia – 252,000
- Norfolk Island – 2,302
- Lord Howe Island Group – 347
- Elizabeth and Middleton Reefs – 0
